We first started using Synovi in the spring of 2008, for our miniature dachshund female who had exhibited severe back problems and was almost not able to walk, much less run, jump and turn. Once we started her on Synovi Soft Chews (Regular Size), it was like a miracle had happened as she began to regain her mobility and each week saw a vast improvement over the prior. We were giving her a half chew every other day.
Since the vet charged a hefty amount for the Synovi, I began to shop the internet to see what was available, and I found the Small Bites on Amazon for alot less price. So, we ordered some and began to use the Small Bites when the Soft Chews ran out. It was easier as you can use a whole chew instead of having to cut in half.......this actually gives your dog a little more of the ingredients per day by using the Small Bite. We have gone through the whole container with no problem, no wood pieces, and our dog always looked forward to her "treat" every day.
When I read the review stating wood chips being in the chew, I too became concerned. I compared the Small Bite container to the one we had gotten from the vet (Soft Chew) and the printing, color, and even the different colored lot/stock number stamped separately on the contained looked identical. Was the label on the Small Bites a forgery......it looked like the manufacturer's real label. So, I decided to investigate by sending an email to the manufacturer, giving them the lot/stock number on the Small Bite container to see if they had indeed produced it. I never got any reply from them.
I suspect the manufacturer did, in fact, produce both what I got from the vet and what I got from Amazon. Otherwise, they would have "rushed" to advise me that the Small Bite was a forgery. I think the manufacturer is being discreet about whom they supply.......if the vets knew the company was supplying outside vendors with the very same products, which can be bought at much reduced prices through Amazon or any other source, they would get irritated at Synovi and may discontinue carrying their products, since they won't be competitive price wise. However, I think most vets only care about the health of the animal and it wouldn't make any difference whether customers buy from them or Amazon.
Since we ran out of the Small Bites, we purchased a larger quantity of Soft Chews (alot cheaper) and now cut them in half and give one daily, rather than every other day as stated earlier. Our little doxie is still doing great, evens runs around in the back yard, like she did when she was a much younger girl. I have begun breeding doxies and plan to start them on a daily regimen of Synovi when they attain two years of age, just as a preventative. I will probably use both the Soft Chews (for the older, heavier doxies----giving a half chew daily) and Small Bites (for younger, lighter ones-----giving a whole chew daily).

DO NOT BUY FROM ENTIRELY PETS!! Synovi G3 is a great product and has helped my dogs tremendously. I've purchased from vets and from other companies on Amazon with great success. BUT, I purchased soft chews from ENTIRELY PETS and my dogs refused to eat them. Several times I found tiny pieces of wood on the chews where my dogs spit them out but I thought perhaps it was tracked into my house. Then I split a chew out of the container and it had 3 tiny chunks of wood in it! The company refuses to discuss and the manager won't call me back. BEWARE THIS COMPANY AND BUY SYNOVI G3 FROM SOMEONE ELSE!!!
Update Janary 2009: I contacted Synovi G3's manufacturer, IVX Animal Health and shipped them the remaining chews I had from Entirely Pets. They initiated a quality investigation and sent me a letter stating the following. "Inspection of the returned complaint samples showed some inconsistencies between the product you returned to us and the product in our current inventory. We believe that these inconsistencies may be related to the manner in which this product was purchased. IVX Animal Health recommends that our products be purchased ony through your veterinarian. IVX regrets any inconvenience this incident may have caused." In my conversation with the company, they told me that they do not sell directly to any of the companies who are selling on Amazon.
